ARTIST STATEMENT
Welcome! It is a big deal to share my art. Thank you for taking an interest!
I am reminded that as a child, my mother and I would explore the woods in Northeastern Ohio, finding splendor in many unsuspecting places. Such precious moments! Later, I have come to realize that work in greenhouses, dairy farming, outdoor education, floral design, and paddling crystal clear waters took me on adventures that greatly influenced my discovery of resplendent grace.
In time my experience with visual art has been varied and eclectic. Formal training is coupled with experimentation. Process versus product has guided me in my outcome. The natural world has always led me to inspiration, the art of looking has been my vehicle. Elements of design such as texture, line, form, and color are as important in my art as the subject matter. Finding a style that waivers between realism and abstraction.
Currently my printed art is created from a variety of processes. Some pieces are accomplished by combining mono print with colored pencil and collage. Others are a result of using strictly mono print. While using these varied methods I have been able to adapt design elements as the final work develops. It is a way to free myself from a conventional style.
Papier-mâché has always been an avenue for creating form. I enjoy the raw simplicity of a process that allows me to use basic materials to an end; smoothing, tearing, stretching are all very satisfying.
I consider myself to be a creative mixed media artist. A “new artist”.
Best regards!
